MINE WATER TREATMENT TECHNICIAN

1823 Consulting Inc. is currently searching for a full-time Technician to join its mine water treatment department. We are looking for a highly autonomous and versatile individual who will play a key role in the development of this young department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a dynamic team and work on world-class projects.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the plant operates in compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations ;
  • Ensure production targets are met by operating and maintaining all aspects of the water treatment plant effectively, including:
    • Data collection and entry
    • Reagent mixing and pump calibration
    • Lab duties: collecting samples, assaying, and generating reports
    • Equipment maintenance & general housekeeping
  • Analyze plant and membrane performance, complete daily process reviews, plant ongoing optimization & troubleshooting;
  • Write, review and edit technical documentation – you’ll be involved with Operations reporting, and writing SOPs and maintenance manuals;
  • Acquire a clear understanding of 1823’s process technologies and operations;
  • Support and participate in engineering studies;
  • Perform laboratory and pilot scale trials.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Technical Degree in Civil, Chemical, Biotechnological, Environmental, Water Engineering or equivalent post education experience;
  • 10+ years of experience in the mining industry;
  • Bilingual (French and English), knowledge of Spanish an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills – you’ll work with site operators, clients and 1823 engineers in person, via email and over the phone;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude;
  • Basic knowledge of process chemistry (i.e. coagulation, flocculation, pH, filtration) and mine water treatment processes (MBBR, sulphide and hydroxide precipitation, RO membrane treatment, cyanide destruction);
  • Willing to work for an extended amount of time on mine sites (up to 70% of the time), often on fly-in fly-out rotations lasting 2 to 3 weeks on site followed by 2 to 3 weeks off;
  • Autonomous and adaptable; Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member;
  • Strong digital literacy with the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook);
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license;
  • Water and Wastewater operator certifications.

WORK LOCATION

Combination of working from our Calgary office and working on mine sites. Mine site work consists on fly-in fly-out rotations.
